The two big paths

Advantage or Supplement?

This is the fork most people wrestle with. There's no single right answer — the right answer is the one that matches your doctors, medications, travel, and risk tolerance.

Medicare Advantage

  • · Often $0 monthly premium
  • · Bundles hospital, medical, usually drug
  • · Network-based (HMO/PPO)
  • · Extras: dental, vision, hearing, gym

Medicare Supplement

  • · Predictable, low out-of-pocket
  • · Any doctor that takes Medicare, anywhere
  • · Higher monthly premium
  • · Add a standalone Part D drug plan

Medicare in the Hill Country

Local networks, local pharmacies.

The Medicare plans that make sense in New Braunfels aren't always the same as those in San Antonio or Austin. Provider networks, hospital affiliations, and drug pharmacy pricing all shift block by block across Comal County, Guadalupe County, and Hays County.

I've helped families in Gruene, Canyon Lake, Seguin, San Marcos, Bulverde, Spring Branch, and Schertz navigate exactly this — matching your specific doctors and pharmacy to the plan that treats them best. If you're comparing Advantage plans, we look at network status for the providers you already see. If you're comparing Part D, we run each of your medications through the plan's formulary.

Frequently asked

Answers before you ask

01What are the Medicare parts, in plain English?

Part A covers hospital stays. Part B covers doctor visits and outpatient care. Part C (Medicare Advantage) bundles A and B — and usually drug coverage — through a private plan. Part D is standalone prescription drug coverage. A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) sits alongside Original Medicare and pays what A and B don't.

02When am I first eligible for Medicare in New Braunfels?

Most people become eligible at 65. Your Initial Enrollment Period is a 7-month window: the 3 months before your birthday month, the month of, and the 3 months after. Missing it can mean permanent late-enrollment penalties, so start the conversation 3-4 months early.

03Should I take Medicare if I'm still working past 65?

It depends on your employer's coverage. If the employer has 20+ employees, you often can delay Part B without penalty. If it's smaller, delaying can create gaps. We'll look at your situation before you enroll or defer.

04Do you help with Medicare enrollment paperwork?

Yes. We complete the application together — usually online in one sitting. You'll get confirmation numbers, ID card timelines, and my direct number if anything goes sideways.

05How often should I review my Medicare plan?

Every year during the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct 15 – Dec 7). Plans change formularies, networks, and premiums annually. I re-shop every client's plan against the next-year offerings — you get a call whether or not I recommend a change.

06Can I switch plans mid-year?

Sometimes. Special Enrollment Periods apply if you move, lose employer coverage, qualify for Extra Help, or have other qualifying events. Medicare Advantage plans also have an Open Enrollment Period Jan 1 – Mar 31 for one change.
